Dr. Andrea Mertz graduated from Farmington High School in 1982. She attended Michigan State University for one year and transferred to the University of Michigan-Dearborn Campus to complete her undergraduate studies in psychology. She worked throughout her undergraduate studies as a dental assistant. Dr. Mertz graduated in 1990 from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in the top quarter of her class. Upon graduation, she was selected into a general practice residency program at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinic (1990-1991). Dr. Mertz stayed on staff at the UIHC, completing a fellowship program in July of 1992. Dr. Andrea Mertz joined her father-in-law, Dr. Donald Mertz, as an associate for the following five years. She then began purchase of the practice while Dr. Donald Mertz eased into retirement.
Dr. Andrea Mertz is one of a select group of dentists nationwide to become a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry (F.A.G.D.). To reach this achievement, Dr. Mertz completed an extensive written exam and a minimum of 500 hours of continuing dental education. In order to maintain membership in the FAGD, Dr. Mertz must complete additional credit hours beyond what is required for dentists. Dr. Mertz is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Saginaw Valley District and Saginaw County Dental Society.
Dr. Andrea Mertz enjoys spending time with her husband, James, three daughters and extended family at their cottage up north. In addition, she loves to watch collegiate sports, read, cook, ski, and walk her dog. She is an active member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and a member of a small group Bible Study.
Dr. James Mertz was raised in Frankenmuth, Michigan. He attended Albion College where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He then attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry from 1986 to 1990, graduating in the top five of his class. He was inducted in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon academic honorary fraternity because of high academic achievement. Dr. Mertz continued his education at the University of Iowa where he received his Masters of Science in Prosthodontics from 1990-1992.
Dr. Mertz opened his practice in Saginaw in July of 1992. He is a member of the American College of Prosthodontics and is a licensed specialist in Prosthodontics. Dr. Mertz is also a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Saginaw Valley District Dental Society, and the Saginaw County Dental Society. Dr. Mertz was secretary of the Saginaw County Dental Society for 10 years.
Dr. James and Andrea Mertz have been married since 1989. They have three daughters. He is an active member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and a small group Bible Study. Dr. Mertz enjoys reading, sports, hunting, and spending time with family on Lake Huron.
Chelsea Bricker, DMD
Dr. Chelsea Bricker joined Mertz Family Dentistry in June 2019 and is the third generation of dentists in the Mertz family. She graduated from Frankenmuth High School in 2011 and Alma College in 2015 with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. She then went on to Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine and received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine in May 2019. Dr. Bricker is a member of the American Dental Association and Michigan Dental Association.
Dr. Bricker lives in Saginaw with her husband, Jon Bricker, whom also works in Saginaw as a Manufacturing and Process Engineer at Mistequay Group, Ltd.. They both enjoy spending time with family and doing outdoor activites together such as running, biking, and playing beach volleyball.
Lisa – Dental Hygienist
Lisa graduated from Bay City Central High School. She completed her dental hygiene degree at Delta College in 2002. Lisa began the first seven years of her career with a dentist in the Frankenmuth area. She joined Mertz Dentistry in 2009.
Lisa enjoys spending time outdoors and camping with her husband, Marc, her two daughters and her dog.
Kristie – Dental Hygienist
Kristie is a graduate of Freeland High School. She graduated from Delta College in 2005 with a degree in dental hygiene. Kristie spent the first six years of her career working at a local dental office. Kristie joined Dr. Mertz’s practice in 2011.
Kristie enjoys going to sporting events and participating in outdoor activities with her husband, Erik, her two boys, family and friends.
Lynn – Office Manager
Lynn graduated from Eisenhower High School and Michigan State University (1998) with a Bachelors in Advertising. Lynn worked as an office manager for 22 years for Reitz-Herzberg Funeral Home. Lynn joined Mertz Dentistry in October of 2016. Lynn enjoys reading and camping with her husband, family, and friends.
Rachel – Dental Assistant
Rachel graduated from Valley Lutheran High School. Rachel began her dental assisting career in a local periodontal office in Saginaw where she worked for five years. Rachel joined the practice of Dr. James Mertz in 2001.
Rachel enjoys cooking, working in her yard and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Faith -- Dental Assistant
Faith graduated from Heritage High School. She attended Ross Medical Education Center and obtained her Dental Assisting Certificate in 2017. Faith joined us in April 2019 after two years of working experience. She enjoys spending time with her family and watching movies.
Penny -- Dental Assistant/Receptionist
Penny graduated from Plainwell High School. She joined our dental team in October 2018 with nearly 25 years of experience in dental assisting and working in the front office. Penny enjoys spending her free time fly fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with family and friends.
Marcy – Dental Receptionist
Marcy graduated from Carrollton High School. She previously worked in the retail industry for 14 years. Marcy joined our team in October of 2015. She enjoys biking, going up north and spending time with her husband, family and friends.
